Who Am I?My name is Sarah and I am a stay at home mom of 1 handsome boy, I love being able to stay home with him and we really enjoy having other children to play and learn with. We do have a cat but she hides from children and is not likely to be seen during the day. I have had the pleasure of working with children for the past 10 years. I have my Early Childhood Education Diploma and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in the field of Communication and Culture as well as my Level 3 Alberta Daycare Staffing Certificate. Some of the courses I have taken include First aid and CPR, Okotoks fire department basic principles of fire and extinguisher operations, Plotting a course towards high quality caregiver interactions, Meeting the challenge parts 1,2,3 and many more. I have worked with people of all ages and stages of life. I have worked with people who have developmental, physical and medical disabilities, including working with children who have; seizures, Autism, ADHD, ADD and many other ailments.
Philosophy I believe that quality childcare must focus on the social and emotional development of the children. Children have the potential to be physically capable of many things, however, if they cannot work well and communicate with others at a young age they will have trouble developing these skills later in life. My role as caretaker is to help children express their individuality verbally and help them to solve problems on their own. I recognize my role as a behavioural model and use that knowledge to help children modify inappropriate behaviour. Children will develop different skills and concepts based on their experiences, so it is my job to provide fun, interesting and educational activities to help increase their knowledge. All children go through stages in their development, but not all at the same age, therefore, the environment must reflect that. The play room is equipped with materials that children at different developmental stages can use and enjoy safely.
